It is known for its famous landmarks, beautiful lighthouses and scenic state and national parks. Bounded by four of the five Great Lakes, Michigan residents are never more than 85 miles from a Great Lakes shoreline and merely six miles from the many inland lakes.
Center of the American automotive industry, Michigan is home to some of the top manufacturers such as General Motors and Ford. While the auto industry plays a huge role in its economy, their forests support thousands of jobs in wood-product, while farm products are huge contributors. Both commercial and sport fishing are prolific due to its geographical area.
